Menopause Symptoms

Menopause Symptoms , as the term itself implies the cessation and permanent stopping of a woman’s monthly menstruation.  In the process, a woman’s ovary stops it primary function – that means, there would be no release of ova and hormones that cause the creation and shedding of uterine lining (which causes menstruation).  A woman’s menopausal stage usually occurs around late 40’s and early 50’s.

Menopause Symptoms is Due to the fact that your body would begin to react with the dropping levels of hormones and estrogen, there would be differences in the menopausal symptoms.  A certain menopausal woman’s symptoms may be different from another’s.  However, most women experience common symptoms such as menstrual irregularities, hot flashes and night sweats, mood swings, headaches, insomnia, vaginal dryness and urinary problems, weight gain, memory and cognitive changes, fatigue and even decreased libido.  In menstrual irregularities, one would have a longer, shorter or even a combination of the two in the lengths of menstrual periods- depending on the hormonal levels of the person.  Hot flashes occur when a woman suddenly feels hot, accompanied by sweating.  However, hot flashes are also called night sweats when they occur during night time.  It is the most common menopausal symptom experienced as reported by most women.  As estrogen levels decline, most women often described themselves as unpredictable.  They would suddenly begin to feel emotional- like at one point, they are happy, laughing and then suddenly begins to cry.  They are thus experiencing mood swings for that matter and thus, they would seek medical help. Headaches and migrains also becomes more frequent during menopausal.  Moreover, women tend to experience insomia- making them more wakeful during nighttime and thus, having difficulty getting back to sleep once awakened.  This would also cause a woman to seek medical help.  And as estrogen levels becomes lower, the walls of the bladder, urethra and vagina becomes drier and thinner making one more prone to infections and other urinary problems.  And since menopausal period is associated with a woman’s age, metabolism is also affected.  As a person ages, he/she is prone to weight gain- which means, larger abdomen, flabby arms and legs and even less muscle mass.  Memory is also affected, partly because of age, having short-term memories and even cognitive changes that could affect a woman’s daily life.  A woman also gets tired easily, more prone to fatigue once she reaches the menopausal stage due to the decrease in her estrogen level.  Lastly, she would experience a decrease in her sexual desire probably with the shifting of her hormones.  However, this could also be associated with stress and other difficult situations in life.  The best thing to do however is still to consult with your doctor to better understand the changes happening in your body and thus making you go on with your daily activities making life simple and easy.
